The Leela Palace Bengaluru and Galle Face Hotel Announce “Heritage Crossroads”: A Historic Culinary Collaboration

The Leela Palace Bengaluru and the Galle Face Hotel in Sri Lanka, in collaboration with “Dean With Us” led by Rupali Dean and Akanksha Dean, are coming together for an event titled “Heritage Crossroads.” This initiative marks a notable first for both properties and focuses on the culinary traditions of Sri Lanka and India. The event is set to take place over three days at both venues, showcasing the diverse flavors and cultural traditions of the two countries.

The central aim of “Heritage Crossroads” is to highlight and promote the distinctive culinary identities of Sri Lanka and India. It seeks to facilitate a deeper cultural exchange, bringing attention to the commonalities and differences in food practices between the two neighboring nations. Earlier in August, the Galle Face Hotel had introduced Indian flavors to the Sri Lankan market as part of the same initiative, while the Indian segment will offer Sri Lankan cuisine to Indian diners. This exchange underscores the long-standing cultural ties between the two regions.

As part of the collaboration, the culinary team from Galle Face Hotel, led by Chef Rukmal Samarasekera, will travel to The Leela Palace Bengaluru to present a curated Sri Lankan menu. This showcase will take place from September 6 to 8 at Le Cirque Signature, one of the dining venues at The Leela Palace. The event provides an opportunity for Bengaluru residents to engage with contemporary Sri Lankan cuisine.

The collaboration was curated by “Dean With Us,” an initiative headed by Akanksha Dean, an independent chef and travel writer, and Rupali Dean, a journalist and food photographer. Both have garnered recognition for their contributions to the culinary world and event curation, including accolades like “F&B Concept Curator of the Year” and “Best Food Writer.” Their involvement in bringing this collaboration together has played a key role in shaping its concept and execution.

The exchange between the two hotels reflects a growing trend in cross-cultural culinary events, aimed at fostering greater appreciation and understanding of diverse food traditions. It also highlights the role of hospitality in bridging cultures through shared culinary experiences.
