Goa tourism looks to promote tourism beyond ‘beaches’

Goa tourism is looking to showcase and promote its tourism products and experiences beyond beaches. Some of the segments in focus include culture, heritage, adventure, medical and eco-tourism.

A new promotional video showcasing the diversity of tourism products in Goa was launched by the state’s Chief Minister, Dr. Pramod Sawant at the inaugural event of three-day-long Goa International Travel Mart (GITM) 2019 that took place in hotel Park Regis on October 23.

Goa has been a preferred destination for domestic and international tourists. However, some tourists have the perception that Goa has got only beaches. We want to dispel such notions and assert that Goa has much more to offer than beaches,” said J. Ashok Kumar, Secretary Tourism, Government of Goa.

“In fact a lot of initiatives have been taken by Goa tourism in the last few years to diversify the tourism products being offered by the state. One such recognition of the efforts made by the department is the fact that Goa was awarded best state for adventure tourism by Ministry of Tourism, Government of India recently,” he added.

The ongoing edition of GITM is also expected to provide insight to domestic as well as international buyers on the various new experiences that can be promoted in the market.

Goa is a melting pot of cultures and their influences. Goa offers its visitors multiple choices and reasons for making their holidays unique and memorable. All this and more has been captured in the new beautiful promotional film,” said Nikhil Desai, Managing Director, Goa Tourism Development Corporation.

While speaking about the adventure tourism products available in Goa, Deputy Chief Minister and Tourism Minister of Goa, Manohar Ajgaonkar said, “Goa has lot to offer for adventure tourism like hot air ballooning, bungy jumping and scuba diving. One can also enjoy white water rafting during the monsoon season.”
