Taiwan Expo 2020 to take place virtually in India, for the first time

Bureau of Foreign Trade (MOEA) and Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) have jointly announced that the third edition of ‘Taiwan Expo’ will take place virtually between December 16 to 18, 2020. This is going to be the first Virtual Taiwan Expo in India.

A large number of exhibitors representing key industries such as automobile, ICT, medical, smart cities, healthcare, Taiwanese lifestyle, agriculture, green tech and education will be showcasing their products through virtual booths.

A lot of Indian companies have been participating in Taiwan for trade shows and expos like Computex. In spite of the challenges caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, TAITRA has decided to go ahead with organizing Taiwan Expo but through a virtual platform this year. We are confident that the event will further offer impetus to the growing trade ties between the two countries.

Currently, Taiwan is the 16th largest trading partner of India. The bilateral trade between the two countries exceeds US$ 7 billion at present. As per Taiwan’s New Southbound Policy (NSP), there is a renewed interest in the Indian market.

For the newly launched Aatmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyaan, India also needs more partner countries to join for its ‘Make in India’ initiative to promote local manufacturing. India has to focus to sell its products not only in the domestic market but also in overseas markets. Moreover, in the background of Mainland China’s increased influence in South Asia through its Belt and Road Initiative and India’s huge trade deficit with the Mainland, a broader business and cultural partnership between India and Taiwan could prove to be a win-win for both the countries.

Taiwan Expo 2020 is a great opportunity to explore business cooperation with Taiwan entrepreneurs by scheduling one-on-one meetings with companies of choice. Taiwan Expo has already been held twice in India. It attracted more than 280 exhibitors and almost 50,000 visitors, creating millions of dollars’ worth of business deals.
