Sarova Hotels Positions Kenya as India’s Next Destination Wedding Market

Sarova Hotels & Resorts is expanding its push into the Indian destination wedding market, betting on a shift among Indian couples toward multi-day, experience-led celebrations rather than single-venue weddings.

With a portfolio spanning city hotels, beach resorts and safari lodges across Kenya, Sarova is positioning itself around a specific proposition for Indian couples: the ability to combine wedding celebrations with a broader Kenyan holiday for family and guests, spanning the Indian Ocean coastline, cultural sites and the country’s wildlife destinations.

Sarova Whitesands Beach Resort & Spa in Mombasa is the group’s lead property for Indian weddings, offering beachfront settings for both intimate and large-scale celebrations. Wedding programmes can be built around traditional pre-wedding functions – Mehendi, Haldi and Sangeet, alongside the ceremony and reception itself, with customisable décor, entertainment, dining, spa experiences and curated activities. The resort offers three tiered packages, Coastal Elegance, Signature Indian Ocean Wedding and Ultimate Sarova Celebration, covering varying levels of accommodation and inclusions.

Beyond the wedding itself, guests have access to sunset dhow cruises, spa and marine activities, and cultural sites including Mombasa Old Town, Fort Jesus and Haller Park. Sarova’s wider portfolio also allows couples to extend the trip into Kenya’s safari circuit, with properties in the Maasai Mara, Samburu, Lake Nakuru and Nairobi.

To support Indian weddings specifically, Sarova draws on its own Indian heritage, offering access to Indian wedding planners, Hindu priests and temples in Mombasa, alongside Indian, Jain, vegetarian and international menu options. The group has previously hosted Indian weddings including that of television personality Rannvijay Singha and Priyanka Vohra.

Indian weddings are becoming increasingly experience-led, with couples looking to create memorable journeys for their families and guests rather than simply a wedding celebration,” said Mita Vohra, Board Director, Sarova Hotels & Resorts. “Kenya offers a wonderful combination of natural beauty, culture, hospitality, and adventure, and through Sarova’s portfolio, couples can bring all of these elements together. We see significant potential in offering the Indian market a wedding experience that is distinctive, personal, and uniquely Kenyan.

At Sarova Whitesands, wedding celebrations are built around full customisation – accommodation, dining, décor, entertainment and guest experiences tailored to each couple’s scale and style.

The move reflects a broader trend among Indian couples toward destinations offering celebration, experience and discovery within a single trip, with Sarova positioning its Kenyan portfolio as an alternative to conventional single-location destination weddings.
