Indian travellers choose experiences over sightseeing: Agoda

The findings point to a growing preference for experience-led holidays where entertainment, adventure and cultural discovery take centre stage.

Indian travellers are increasingly building their holidays around immersive experiences rather than traditional sightseeing, with theme parks, island excursions and adventure attractions emerging as the most sought-after activities across Asia, according to digital travel platform Agoda.

Data released by Agoda for the first half of 2026 reveals that Universal Studios Singapore, the Pattaya Coral Island Tour in Thailand and VinWonders Phu Quoc in Vietnam were the three most-booked activities among Indian travellers. The findings point to a growing preference for experience-led holidays where entertainment, adventure and cultural discovery take centre stage.

The trend also underlines the enduring popularity of short-haul destinations across Southeast Asia, driven by strong air connectivity, diverse attractions and value-for-money offerings that continue to attract families, groups of friends and weekend holidaymakers.

Across Asia, theme parks dominated traveller preferences. Hong Kong Disneyland emerged as the most-booked attraction in Hong Kong, while Tokyo Disney Resort topped bookings in Japan and Lotte World was the leading attraction in South Korea. The results suggest that for many travellers, visiting a major theme park is no longer an add-on to the itinerary but the primary reason for the trip.

Beyond theme parks, Agoda’s data reflects a wider appetite for diverse experiences across the region. In Vietnam, Sun World Fansipan Legend in Sapa ranked as the country’s most-booked attraction. Featuring a cable car journey to Fansipan, the highest peak in Indochina, the attraction signals increasing interest among travellers in nature-based experiences beyond major urban centres.

Marine and wildlife attractions also featured prominently. Aquaria KLCC emerged as Malaysia’s most-booked attraction, while Jakarta Aquarium Safari led bookings in Indonesia, highlighting sustained demand for family-oriented leisure experiences.

Thailand’s most-booked activity was Skyflyers Giant Swing, an open-air attraction that swings visitors 135 metres above Bangkok, reflecting the Thai capital’s growing appeal as an adventure destination. In Taiwan, the North Coast Tour covering Jiufen and Yehliu topped bookings, indicating that scenic day tours remain among the preferred ways for travellers to explore destinations.

Agoda’s ranking of the most-booked activities by market in the first half of 2026 placed Hong Kong Disneyland at the top, followed by Sun World Fansipan Legend in Vietnam, Aquaria KLCC in Malaysia, Tokyo Disney Resort in Japan, Lotte World in South Korea, Jakarta Aquarium Safari in Indonesia, Skyflyers Giant Swing in Thailand and Taiwan’s North Coast Tour.

Commenting on the findings, Gaurav Malik, Country Director, India Subcontinent & Indian Ocean Islands at Agoda, said, “Travel today is increasingly about creating meaningful memories, and Indian travelers are embracing destinations that offer a blend of entertainment, discovery, and relaxation. Whether it’s a family holiday, a getaway with friends, or a long-awaited international vacation, travelers are looking to maximize the travel experience in their own unique ways. At Agoda, we remain focused on helping travelers access great value and seamless travel options, enabling them to explore the world with confidence and ease.”

Agoda currently offers access to more than 300,000 travel experiences worldwide, alongside over six million accommodation options and more than 130,000 flight routes. The platform also has an official partnership with Hong Kong Disneyland, enabling travellers to access exclusive packages and experiences.
