Experience the flavors of Turkey in India: Baris

For a long time, I was looking for a good restaurant that serves authentic Mediterranean and middle eastern delicacies and my quest finally ended at Baris in Greater Kailash II, New Delhi. I recently had a chance to hop in to Baris and truly, the food served is appeasing.

In Turkish, Baris means ‘peace’ and once you try the food here, I am sure your soul will be uplifted with joy of the flavorful journey of the platter they serve. The restaurant never compromises on offering scrumptious indulgent cuisines from the Mediterranean to Chinese. You can easily relish these lip-smacking varieties with the essence of luxurious drinks, variegated flavors & cutting-edge cocktails and make a memorable and cheerful day-out or night-out.

We have ordered Mercimek Corbasi Soup and Ezo Gelin Corbasi Soup which started my day with a bang and gave me a glimpse of the flavorsome evening stored ahead of me. Both the dishes were authentic and flavorful, and their tastes were just as we had on a trip to Turkey. In starters, we had Chicken Turkish Chelo Kabab, Pilich Shish Kebab (chicken breast fillets marinated in a Turkish way, grilled, and served with flatbread, pickles, and Turkish sweet chili sauce), and Peynir Shish (cottage cheese chunks marinated in Turkish spices and served with pide croutons, pickled veg, chili aioli).

Then you have the option to choose from Mezze platters – both the chilled and the hot variety. We chose the Arabic mezze platters which had hummus, babaganoush, muammara, and beetroot labneh and was served with mahshi bread. I so loved it that for a while I thought I was in Turkey! It was as authentic as it can get.

We also tried fretting baked Ispanakli pide pizza which had spinach, onions, garlic, feta, and mozzarella cheese as topping. It is a must if you are ordering or visiting the place. If you are a non-vegetarian, you can opt for Lahmacun which is Turkish thin crust pizza with a topping of ground lamb with spices, tomatoes, and herbs, served with arugula and sumac onion.

In the next course, we’ve tried Arab Turlusu (roasted seasonal veggies in rich tomato sauce with Arabic spices and steamed basmati Pilaf), Mahmudiye (chicken thigh, apricot, raisins, almonds) cooked in butter with cinnamon, honey lemon chili served with saffron pilaf. Pilaf means rice and they were perfect accompaniments to the curries presented with a perfect mix of spices. It was not too spicy, and my kids thoroughly enjoyed the food. It’s great to see that they have developed different tastes and I could expose them to experience the culture of a land alien to them, right here in the outskirts of New Delhi.

My favorite dish though was Cigar Borek and Chicken Chilav. Both were utterly delicious.

An evening cannot be called off without the crisp and succulent Baklava Duo. I can assure you that this was the best Baklava in town, and you will surely end up having some extra as the craving isn’t easily satiated.

Overall, I had a great evening at the restaurant and its enchanting ambience with my family, and I strongly recommend you visit the place. It has upped its decor to a whole new level welcoming its guests to enjoy their weekends with high-class live bands, accompanied by upbeat DJ performances. Whether you’re in the mood to party or not, the huge dance floor and sassy music are sure to get you in the mood and let you just groove!
