The Quest for Smart Homes

Smart and energy efficient are the qualities that define Zunpulse products. The company’s state-of-the-art products offer its customers ability to control all their electric devices through an app, while also keeping a tab on any energy wastage.

Pranesh Chaudhary Founder and CEO of Zunpulse on a mission to deliver smarter choices to all electricity needs in every Indian home. Starting as a solar rooftop company in 2016, Zunpulse complemented its business model with tech innovations and a smart home approach to solve for efficient utilization of electricity. 

Zunpulse has built a range of smart products that allow homeowners to manage their smart devices that can be controlled through their smartphones. To date Zunpulse has assessed over 3,50,000 homes, in 75+ cities in India. They have saved over 50 crores in electricity bills for their customers and have smartified over one lakh Indian households and further aim to power 5 million Indian Homes with advanced home tech by 2025. Currently, they offer a range of smart products like geysers, room heaters, lighting, fans, air purifier, water purifier, door locks, smart video doorbells, and many other smart products. Any customer with a Wi-Fi connection at their home simply needs to plug the device with a power supply and easily control their home with just one tap on the Zunpulse mobile app.

Chaudhary spoke to Travel Trade Insider on what separates his company from competitors. The following are the excerpts from the interview:

1) How has the idea of Zunpulse came into existence and what are the challenges faced?

I derive inspiration from the smallest of things, but if I trace back to the times when I felt a strong desire to solve something, it was in the many hours of the day when Muzaffarpur saw electricity cuts and our lives seemed to come to a stop. I believe, having experienced this personally and realizing that electricity expenses are a costly affair for households, inspired us to ensure that no house in India lives without affordable electricity. We have come a long way in this quest, and it has inspired us to move towards the smart utilization of this available electricity for which we created zunpulse. Challenges are inevitable when you start building a new category of products and we have had our fair share too.

2) Keeping the need for sustainable options, how is Zunpulse working and adapting the same in their products?

Apart from delivering comfort and convenience to our customers, our smart devices help users to understand their energy consumption at an appliance level and also offer energy saving

opportunities to them. As a result, our customers are able to efficiently utilize electricity and reduce energy wastage.

3) What is the USP of your products? How are they different from the existing products in the market?

Our USP is the ability to control all your electrical devices through the zunpulse app. Be it your TV, AC, heater, geyser, lights, fans, door lock, doorbell, etc. Though there are multiple players

now in the market, none of them has the entire ecosystem of all smart devices. Apart from this, we do have a few unique products which are currently not being offered by any other player.

4) How has the response been so far from the market? Are you planning to launch any new products for the upcoming festive season?

Our products received an excellent response from the market. The fulfillment team was so overwhelmed with the spike in order flow that we’ve had to open a new bigger warehouse to

operate from. Yes, you will soon see our smart heaters and smart geysers flooding the market in addition to a smart wireless door lock. The smart heaters and smart geysers are WiFi enabled and can be controlled from the zunpulse app and you will also be able to set up smart schedules to make them automatically turn on/off at your desired choice of time and day of week. The smart wireless door lock can be unlocked through the zunpulse app, fingerprint, numeric password, RFID card and the traditional key.

5) How are your products apt for Smart Living in India? How are you leveraging modern technology in your products and operations?

Our smart devices deliver comfort, convenience and security to our customers, thus saving their time and effort in executing rudimentary transactional tasks like – automating the geyser to

automatically turn on in the morning every day, checking who is at the door without getting up, unlocking the door remotely for your acquaintance when you are not home, etc.

To deliver these, we are utilizing IoT, AI and machine learning. As a first step in tech advancement, we have enabled a new feature in our door lock that will turn on the smart lights automatically every time it is unlocked. There are many other such similar features in the making and you will soon find out more about them.

6) What are your plans for the company’s growth? Can you share current sales and revenues?

We are on track for a 3x year on year growth for FY23. The revenue numbers are under audit and shall be revealed once the process is completed.
