Film Star R K Roja is the new Tourism Minister of Andhra Pradesh

Popular South Indian cine star, R K Roja, who is an MLA from the Nagari constituency is the new Tourism Minister of Andhra Pradesh.

Roja is among the 13 new faces that have been inducted into the Andhra Pradesh Council of Ministers in Amaravati on Monday (April 11).

Serving her second term as a legislator, the firebrand Roja now represents two districts Chittoor (old) and Tirupati (new) as Nagari got divided in the recent reorganisation of districts.

Welcoming the new Tourism Minister of the behalf of the Tours and Travels Association of Andhra (TTAA), K. Vijay Mohan said the association is looking forward to working closely with the new honourable Minister for promoting tourism sector in the state.

Roja was a leading actress in Tamil and Telugu films from 1991 to 2002. She has also acted in a few Kannada and Malayalam-language films. She won three Nandi Awards and one Tamil Nadu State Film Award. 

Roja began her political career in 1999 from the Telugu Desam Party and aligns with the YSR Congress Party since 2011. She was elected as an MLA from Nagari in Andhra Pradesh twice in the 2014 and 2019. She also serves as the YSR Congress Party’s State Women President.
