Industry event underlines importance of skill development for tourism sector

The Governing Council Meeting of Tourism & Hospitality Skill Council (THSC) was held recently in New Delhi under the aegis of Jyoti Mayal, Chairperson, THSC & President, Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI).
The meeting was attended by the members of the council and representatives of the Ministry of Skilling and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) as well as National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC).

Mayal spoke about the changed environment and the need of the new skills which would be required both for learning and hiring. The skills emphasised were proficiency with technology, soft skills, emotional maturity and global mindset.

Manish Kumar, CEO & MD, NSDC addressed the council while Praveen Kumar, Secretary, MSDE, Government of India delivered the keynote address, both of which were very well received by the council members.

Speakers reflected on the private CSR funds to be channelised for skills enhancement in the tourism sector understanding the cash shortage. It wasl also highlighted that PMKVY 3.0 Scheme, the third phase of Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana will be implemented to ensure that the youth gets training in new technologies. This training will ensure that the youth of India get a proper and educational job in their near future.

Manish Kumar and Praveen Kumar, both, appreciated and commended various initiative executed by team THSC during these unprecedented times under the able leadership of Rajan Bahadur, CEO (THSC). The council continues to strive towards fulfilling the vision of Prime Minister, Narendra Modi towards skilled and Atamnirbhar Bharat.

Mayal in her closing note requested both Manish Kumar and Praveen Kumar to set up a government task force inclusive of all tourism related ministries like MoT, Shipping & Waterways, Railways and others to not only skill more professionally but also be the source of employment. 

THSC is a Not-for-Profit Organization, registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860. It is funded by the National Skills Development Corporation (NSDC) and promoted by the Confederation of Indian Industry (ClI) with the support funding from the industry members under the aegis of Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), Government of India.
