Andhra Pradesh to develop Srisailam and Nallamala forest as key tourism hub: CM Naidu

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has announced ambitious plans to develop tourism in the Nallamala forest region while ensuring the preservation of local wildlife.

Speaking to the media near Patalganga in Srisailam following prayers at the Sri Bhramaramba Mallikarjuna Swamy temple, Naidu shared the state’s vision to transform Srisailam into a premier spiritual and nature-based tourist destination.

Naidu, accompanied by Union Civil Aviation Minister K. Ram Mohan Naidu and State Tourism Minister Kandula Durgesh, traveled from Vijayawada to Srisailam on a demonstration seaplane flight. He remarked that the 40-minute flight, which offered a panoramic view of the dense Nallamala forests, was a smooth and enjoyable experience, even more comfortable than a standard airplane journey. “The flight was serene, without turbulence, making for a unique and pleasant trip through the lush forest landscape,” Naidu said.

Highlighting Srisailam’s potential as both a pilgrimage center and tourist attraction, Naidu outlined plans to develop a tiger safari at Tummalabailu, taking advantage of the Nallamala forest’s rich wildlife, including tigers and leopards. “A tiger safari will draw many visitors, creating a new dimension to tourism in Srisailam,” he said.

In addition to its natural beauty, Srisailam boasts several prominent attractions, including the Akkamahadevi caves, a museum, and temples such as the Istakameswari, Chenchu Lakshmi, and Sakshi Ganapati. Under his administration, the state invested ₹47 crore in 2014-15 to enhance Srisailam’s infrastructure, widening roads, building a ring road, and adding a ropeway. However, Naidu expressed concern over the lack of further development in the last five years, emphasizing the need for renewed focus.

To advance these initiatives, a committee of three Cabinet Ministers – K. Pawan Kalyan (Forests and Environment), Anam Ramnarayana Reddy (Endowments), and Kandula Durgesh (Tourism) – will be formed to prepare a comprehensive master plan for Srisailam. “We will have a report from the committee soon and proceed with the development plans,” Naidu said, noting that support from the Union government would also be sought for enhancing the area’s facilities.

The Chief Minister also outlined plans to develop the nearby town of Sunnipenta as a convenient lodging destination, akin to Tirupati, to accommodate the expected influx of tourists.

In addition, Naidu announced the state’s intentions to boost tourism in Gandikota, a scenic locale in Kadapa district known for its striking canyon landscapes, by introducing adventure sports. He also shared that regular seaplane operations are expected to launch in March, positioning Andhra Pradesh as a major tourism destination in the coming years.
