The Aviation and Tourism Committee of the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) welcomed Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, President of the Republic of Maldives, and his delegation during their historic visit to India. The visit is seen as a pivotal moment for strengthening ties between the two nations, particularly in the tourism and aviation sectors.
Dr. Subhash Goyal, Chairman of the Expert Committee on Aviation & Tourism and STIC Travel Group, expressed optimism about the visit, stating, “This visit should iron out the differences and misunderstandings that may have existed.” He highlighted India’s significant outbound travel market of approximately 25 million, emphasizing that Indian tourists prefer destinations where they feel welcomed and face no visa restrictions.
Dr. Goyal also suggested that accepting Indian Rupees in the Maldives would encourage more Indian tourists to visit the island nation. “I had the pleasure of meeting and interacting with the Hon’ble President, the Hon’ble Finance Minister, and the business delegation during a reception in their honor organized by Indian Industry at ITC Maurya, New Delhi. I found a lot of warmth and a keen desire to do business with India, and I am confident that this visit will be a grand success,” Dr. Goyal added.
The visit is expected to strengthen economic ties and foster greater cooperation in tourism and business between India and the Maldives, further enhancing the relationship between the two countries.
