Disney to Build Landmark Theme Park Resort on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi

In a landmark move for global tourism and entertainment, The Walt Disney Company and Miral, Abu Dhabi’s leading creator of immersive destinations and experiences, have announced plans to develop a Disney theme park resort on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi. This marks Disney’s seventh global theme park resort and its first in the Middle East.

The new waterfront destination will blend Disney’s iconic characters and storytelling with the cultural richness and architectural splendor of Abu Dhabi. The project underscores the UAE’s growing reputation as a hub for world-class tourism and innovation. Strategically located within a four-hour flight of one-third of the world’s population, the UAE offers unmatched connectivity, welcoming over 120 million passengers annually through its major airports in Abu Dhabi and Dubai.

This is a thrilling moment for our company,” said Robert A. Iger, CEO of The Walt Disney Company. “Disneyland Abu Dhabi will be authentically Disney and distinctly Emirati — an oasis of extraordinary entertainment at this crossroads of the world. We aim to bring our timeless characters and stories to life in new and modern ways that will delight families across the region and beyond.”

Miral will oversee the development and operations of the resort, while Disney’s legendary Imagineers will lead creative design and ensure operational excellence. The theme park will feature immersive attractions, themed accommodations, curated dining and retail experiences, and new entertainment formats tailored for the region.

His Excellency Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of Miral, expressed pride in the collaboration: “Abu Dhabi is where heritage meets innovation. This partnership reflects what’s possible when visionary leadership and creative excellence come together. We are creating a whole new world of imagination that will inspire generations and create magical moments for families.”

Josh D’Amaro, Chairman of Disney Experiences, highlighted the resort’s unique location and design potential. “Anchored by a stunning waterfront, this will be the most advanced and interactive Disney destination in our portfolio. It’s a new frontier in theme park development — one that celebrates creativity, progress, and the spirit of collaboration.

Yas Island is already home to several renowned attractions, including Ferrari World, Warner Bros. World, and Yas Waterworld. The addition of a Disney resort is expected to further elevate the island’s status as a premier global destination for family entertainment and leisure.

Miral Group CEO Mohamed Abdalla Al Zaabi added, “This is a historic milestone for Yas Island. The development of this one-of-a-kind resort will reinforce Abu Dhabi’s global positioning while supporting long-term economic growth and tourism.”

The announcement marks a pivotal chapter in the evolution of themed entertainment in the region, promising a unique fusion of Disney magic and Emirati hospitality that is set to transform the landscape of global tourism.
