Conversation Room: Kolkata’s Newest Neighborhood Bar Elevating the City’s Cocktail Culture

Conversation Room, a brand-new neighborhood bar designed to bring the global cocktail experience to Kolkata. With a focus on creating an intimate and unpretentious space, Conversation Room invites guests to reconnect with the joy of in-person interactions while enjoying top-tier cocktails and food. The venue is open from Noon to Midnight, providing a cozy yet energetic atmosphere for socializing throughout the day and into the night.

Conversation Room captures the vibe of a neighborhood bar while offering the elevated standards of an international cocktail destination. Conceived by founders Ramesh Agarwal and Abhimanyu Maheshwari, the bar aims to redefine Kolkata’s nightlife and build a culture of in-person, meaningful conversations. The space is meticulously designed by FK’D Workshop, blending nostalgic elements with contemporary design, making it a place where guests can feel at home.

Ramesh Agarwal, Founder, Conversation Room said, “With Roots and Refinery 091, we created spaces that set new standards for nightlife in Kolkata. Conversation Room is the next step, aiming to push the city’s bar scene to match global benchmarks while creating a space that Calcuttans truly deserve.”

Abhimanyu Maheshwari, Founder added, “C-Room is a place where human interaction takes center stage. From having an existential conversation with a friend to dancing the night away, it’s all about fostering genuine connections with a great cocktail in hand. Our bar is rooted in Kolkata, but we believe it would feel right at home in cities like Bangkok or Singapore.”

Additionally, the beverage program, developed by Countertop India and led by Pankaj Balachandran, offers a range of cocktails designed to be fun, approachable, and perfect conversation starters. With the aim of introducing Kolkata to a global cocktail culture, the drinks are crafted with complex techniques that stay behind the scenes, allowing customers to enjoy simple yet flavorful options. The menu includes classics, a selection of highballs with in-house sodas, and an accessible wine list curated by Prithvi Nagpal.

Chef Saurabh Udinia, known for his work at Masala Library and Revolver, Singapore, has crafted the food program with a theme of “comfort food with a global twist.” The menu offers an eclectic selection ranging from street food-inspired small plates to more substantial options that draw inspiration from the Indian subcontinent and beyond. Each dish is designed to complement the bar’s relaxed, conversational atmosphere.

The interior design of Conversation Room by FK’D Workshop, led by architect Faizan Khatri, pays homage to the idea of a cozy corner—a nostalgic space that feels like it’s always been there. With worn-out surfaces, casual scribbles, and eclectic artifacts, the design captures the essence of social spaces where connections are made and memories are created. The design is ever-evolving, encouraging guests to leave their own mark on the space over time.

Located in the heart of Kolkata, Conversation Room offers an inviting atmosphere that encourages genuine connection over great drinks and food. With a lineup of expertly crafted cocktails, an approachable wine list, and a menu that’s both nostalgic and modern, Conversation Room is set to become a neighborhood favorite.
