IHCL CEO calls for industry collaboration at IATO Convention

In a move to energize India’s inbound tourism sector, Puneet Chhatwal, Managing Director and CEO of the Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL), opened the 39th annual convention of the Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO) on Friday (August 30) with a call for collective action and a series of new initiatives aimed at strengthening industry partnerships.

Addressing a large gathering of tourism stakeholders at the Taj Lakefront in Bhopal, Chhatwal praised Madhya Pradesh for being one of the country’s cleanest and greenest states. He emphasized the importance of collaboration among industry players to build a competitive advantage, describing the gathering as a crucial step towards achieving that goal.

We are delighted to see such a vibrant assembly of tourism stakeholders here in the heart of India,” Chhatwal said. “It is through collective efforts that we can drive growth and innovation in our industry.”

While addressing delegates at the event, Chhatwal announced five strategic initiatives by IHCL to enhance its partnership with the tourism community, starting with an increase in commissions for IATO members from 10 percent to 12.5 percent. In an effort to offer more value, IHCL will also provide room rates inclusive of breakfast, a move aimed at offering a more comprehensive package for IATO members.

Highlighting the need for flexibility, Chhatwal introduced a new cancellation policy for IATO’s membership. For business hotels, individual travellers will be allowed to cancel bookings within 48 hours, while for leisure and palace properties, the cancellation window is extended to seven days.

He further announced a 25 percent discount on the best available hotel room rates for IATO members travelling for any event, both within India and internationally, wherever IHCL operates.

In a bid to boost inbound tourism, IHCL will invest Rs 20 crore over the next three years to host cocktail evenings at major international trade events such as ATM Dubai, WTM London, and IMEX Frankfurt,” shared Chhatwal.

The IATO convention, taking place from August 30 to September 2, is expected to draw significant attention to Madhya Pradesh’s potential as a tourism destination.
