Jal Mahotsav 2022-23 Inaugurated at Hanuwantiya, Madhya Pradesh

Shushri Usha Thakur, Minister, Dept of Tourism, Culture, Religious Trusts & Endowment inaugurated the most anticipated water carnival. 

Jal Mahotsav will be held from 29 November to 29 January in Hanuwantiya island of Khandwa district.

There will be folk and cultural events along with water, air adventure activities.

Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board has organized the seventh edition of “Jal Mahotsav”, one of the biggest events of the state, from 29th November 2022 at Hanuwantiya in Khandwa district. Honourable Minister Tourism, Culture, Endowment and Religious Trust Department Sushri Usha Thakur inaugurated the Jal Mahotsav.

Highlighting about the Jal Mahotsav, Sushri Thakur expressed her sincere gratitude to the 24 villages on which the project of Jal Mahotsav has surfaced. She added that 17 acers of land have been developed to celebrate the Jal Mahotsav this year where tourists can enjoy the nature and get away from all the hassle. She mentioned that great freedom fighters of the country have been honoured by putting up their paintings all across the tent city.   

Principal Secretary Tourism and Culture Department and Managing Director, MP Tourism Board Shri Sheo Shekhar Shukla said, ‘Jal Mahotsav has established itself as an ideal destination for adventure lovers across all over the world. The Tourism Board constantly strives to enhance the enthusiasm and enjoyment of the tourists through new innovations. In this series, a flying inflatable boat activity is being organized at Hanuwantiya island located on the backwaters of Indira Sagar Dam. For the first time in the country, tourists will enjoy such an activity. Adventure activities such as scuba diving, night safari at Boriyamal Island, luxury Regal series boat, 40 feet high rope swing, zip cycle, paramotoring, parasailing, speed boat, jet-ski, hot air ballooning, motor boat riding etc. will be the major attractions.”

He also highlighted that the tent city is open to host weddings along with meetings, seminars and workshops. Shri Shukla also highlighted that edition of Jal Mahotsav will also focus on wellness tourism.

The Tourism Board, in association with Sunset Desert Camp, is operating the Tent City located at Hanuwantiya island on the backwaters of Indira Sagar Dam for tourists. The tent city has 104 luxury Swiss tents as well as an AC conference hall for corporate conferences. Many activities like wellness spa by the famous Kareli group of Kerala, three-day national international anglers angling sport event, music festival and kite festival will also be organized for the entertainment of the tourists.

Jal Mahotsav is organized every year by the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board with the aim of developing Hanuwantiya island, located on the banks of Indira Sagar dam, as an ideal tourist destination. The festival was awarded as India’s Unique Water & Adventure Carnival in Spain in January 2022
