Taiwan Expo 2019 expected to boost trade ties with India

Bureau of Foreign Trade (MOEA) and Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), Taiwan’s foremost trade promotion body is organizing the second edition of ‘Taiwan Expo’  on May 16 to 18, 2019. at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi. The event is expected to further offer impetus to the growing trade ties between the two countries, including tourism exchange.

Karen Pai, Deputy Executive Director, TAITRA said, “India is a place that Taiwanese companies can’t afford to ignore. Currently, Taiwan is 16th largest trading partner of India. The bilateral trade stood at US$ 7 billion last year, an increase of 11 per cent over the previous year. As per Taiwan’s new Southbound policy, there is a renewed interest in the Indian market.”

There will be 10 theme pavilions at the expo including Taiwan Excellence Pavilion, Taiwan Green Products Pavilion, Taiwan IoT Smart Living Pavilion, Taiwan Healthcare Pavilion, Digital Commerce Pavilion, Taiwan Bubble Tea Pavilion, Taiwan Agricultural Pavilion, Taiwan Tourism Pavilion, Hsinchu Science Park Biotech Hub, Six Senses of Taiwan, Education & Tourism, ICT Product & Electrical Equipment, Medical Devices, Health & Personal Care and Taiwan High Quality Products.

Tien Chung- Kwang, Ambassador, Taipei Economic and Cultural Center in India stressed on the need to improve people to people contact between the two countries through strengthening of relationship in the tourism sector.

“Taiwan has entered India much later than compared to other countries like Japan and South Korea. However, we are catching up with others. Apart from sectors like Information & Communication Technology (ICT), tourism exchange between the two countries can improve significantly. Taiwan welcomed 11 million tourists last year, of which Indian travellers were mere 30,000. There is a lack of awareness about Taiwan as a destination. I think that film shoots can be one of the ways to promote tourism offerings of Taiwan in India,” added the Ambassador.

Taiwan Expo 2019 is expected to record participation from 130 exhibitors showcasing their state-of-the-art products through 230 booths. TAITRA has come up with an interactive activity to increase the number of visitors attending the expo. Visitors can download the app: Marq+ and play interactive games in the expo. One of these games is to scan the butterfly image of Taiwan expo and add the butterfly wings to it. Visitors can win exciting prizes by participating in these activities.
